Indian Blue Peafowl

Latin Name: Pavo cristatus

Habitat: Ground dwelling in open forest or cultivated land.

Diet: Grain, berries, lizards and small rodents.

Lifespan: 15 years

Average Size: Weight: 6 kg, Length: 115 cm from bill to tail

Characteristics:

A large and brightly colour bird.  They have a fan shaped crest on their head made of feathers with bare black shafts and tipped with bluish green webbing.  The male is predominantly blue with a fan long train of elongated upper-tail covert feathers which bear colourful eyespots.  Females lack the train and have a greenish lower neck and dullish brown plumage.
