Origin: South America

Latin Name: Octodon degus

Habitat: Open scrubland or semi-arid desert areas.

Diet: Hay, vegetables, dried pellet food.

Lifespan: Up to 8 years

Average Size: Weight:300 grams, Length:31 cm

Characteristics:

Degus are rodents and are closely related to guinea pigs and chinchillas.  They come in a variety of colours but mainly a yellow / brown colour and have a long, thin tail with a tufted black tip and dark tufted ears.
