Origin: Andes Mountain of South America

Habitat: Burrows and rock crevices in desert areas

Diet: Plant leaves, fruit, seeds and small rodents

Lifespan: Up to 10 years

Average Size: Weight: 0.50 Kg., Length 30cm

Characteristics:

Chinchillas are rodents who are prized for their luxuriously soft fur.  They     come in a variety of colours including silver, white, beige and black.  They have short ears, bushy tails and muscular hind legs.  Chinchillas are closely related to the guinea pig and the porcupine.
